Ravenous termite species heads south

It's a story we've all heard: 'Termites eat entire home', 'Termites cost millions in damage', but now there is a super termite on the move.

Today Tonight’s Adam Marshall reports that “The great northern termite is responsible for millions of dollars damage in far northern Australia every year.”

And now this species has been found to be heading south. It was discovered by pest inspector Danny Kelly on the Gold Coast, and the species identification confirmed by a Brisbane entomologist, The Australian reports.

Today Tonight speaks to Kelly who says “They can do severe structural damage to houses really quickly.”

Perhaps the most unnerving characteristic of this super termite, is its resistance to regular white ant treatments.
